World Hijab Day, Feb 1st
“O Prophet! Ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies. In this way it is more likely that they will be recognized (as virtuous) and not be harassed. And God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful” (Quran 33:59).
Century after century Muslim women of the world have been observing the divine dress code of modesty and humility called the hijab. Hijab signifies the Muslim women’s commitment and desire to please the One and Only God. This commitment to piety and modesty is also reflected in the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus, a woman who holds a place of honor in the hearts of Muslim women.
The hijab liberates the Muslim woman from the suffocating norms of society and allows her to shine in her personality, intellect and confidence.
Muslim women from around the world have accomplished many amazing achievements while holding strong to their faith and their commitment to the divine dress code.
It should be noted that the concept of modesty in Islam applies to both men and women.
“(O Prophet!) Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely God is All-Aware of what they do.” (Quran 24:30)
